New Year’s Address to the Nation
The Guyana’s People Partnership (GPP) wishes to extend to ALL our fellow Guyanese around the world, from Georgetown to New York, Linden to Miami, Berbice to Toronto, Essequibo to London, and the Rupununi to Washington “BEST WISHES for 2011.”
The New Year is a time of hope as we reflect on the past and prepare for the future. The strength of our Nation lies in the hearts and souls of Guyanese everywhere. In the past year, we continued our work to help our citizens in areas of economics, sports and social services.
There is a great need in our nation for a true sense of optimism and patriotism. Many of us remember singing the national anthem while we were growing up. We dutifully said the pledge and even sang words such as, “We want to build this land that belongs to us.” In 2011, let us desperately strive for a resurgence of patriotism and a new focus for national optimism. However, we must understand that patriotism can only come when the people of a nation are standing together in solidarity.
The political agenda for 2011 must portray the belief that we really can make this country successful. There must be a radical change in the way the rule of law is administered, decisions must be made in a timely and efficient manner, and there needs to be resolutions that meet the needs and expectations of the public. Only then will we start to see optimism and hope spring forth for the future of Guyana. We need to realize there is a lot more to be done to improve our economy and create jobs, which will then provide HOPE for our people.
Solidarity breeds PATRIOTISM, patriotism breeds OPTIMISM and HOPE. When we as a people, and those in government, can put aside our petty differences and focus on the future of this country we will be the Guyana long desired. It is also then that we will have a Guyana our children will want to proudly live in for the rest of their lives. A unified and optimistic nation is a successful nation. It’s time for Guyana to be unified, optimistic and successful. The coming year will hold new challenges ,battles that have yet to be fought, and stories of progress that have yet to be written.
We extend our best wishes for a happy New Year to ALL. May God bless you, and continue to bless Guyana. Our goal for 2011 is to connect Guyanese everywhere to focus on re-building our nation with success at the national elections.
